|| Influence
Most times when we think of influence, our minds can sometimes be wrapped up with and warped by thoughts of insta like, trends, social media statuses and the list goes on. Yet influence is a very tricky thing.
Sometimes, we may even think to ourselves that influence is only reserved for certain persons in the world. One may think, “ I am a tiny fish in the big dense ocean, what can I really do that would truly change anything?” I have pondered on this for a moment and have come to realize something.
Tell a guy he has no purpose, so ultimately no influence, and see if he truly believes this, where his life would take him. Indeed, we can start to see disruptive and destructive behaviour starting to take shape of his life, which then spills over in to his immediate environment, ultimately hurting the persons quite near to him, to then possible trigger an entire chain reaction. So, my question is: is this not influence?
Though he may have been initially influenced by the initiating influencer, it does not preclude the fact the he reflexively owned the role as the intermediary influencer. For his lot, he has been converted into a mercenary machine spewing deathly influence wherever he carries himself, though this be unbeknownst to him. Influence is a very tricky thing.
You see, as long as there is breath and life, no matter how small the particle, the truth is that there is life, meaning and purpose for everything under the Sun. Sometimes, we choose to believe that influence only takes place on the bigger stages of life, where most are able to deflect their eyes towards. This is the greatest lie. For without your own eyes, who would then see those very acts of life? For a show, there must be an audience. Just know that whatever you stare at is staring directly back at you. For life is but a reflection, isn’t it?
The real acts of life come through the very ordinary things that we can possibly do in our everyday lives. If each little water droplet decided not to be the water droplet, then how on earth would we find ourselves swimming in the big Caribbean’s blue? If each grain of sand decided to go saltless, losing its integrity, then on what ground would we actually be standing on?
The little acts matter to the big world in which we live, for we can see ripple effects that can flow through a nation. The biggest influence we can possibly exert happens when we are not even trying to influence at all. The tiniest habits in one’s life may have the potential to stir up and create some of life’s biggest impacts across time.
Every day, we have the ability to choose. For our lot, we are given will, which, if used properly and in accordance with the Will of God Almighty, is one of life’s most powerful and effervescent forces on earth. We can choose how to act, what to reflect on, but most importantly how to think and feel, even in the ugliest of circumstances. This reflexively can change our own lives for the better, with attitudes that may potentially spill over into our outer worlds.
You see, the truth is, that we all influence the world in which we live. There is always someone who acts as the onlooker in your life, really moved by the things that you do when you think most that absolutely no one is looking. Never can one truly tell how great an influence they have left on someone or even on something. I tell you then, never underestimate the true power, yet very silent nature of influence as we try to live our authentic lives on this very earth.
