Now, I spend some time reflecting on life’s probability.
I would like to focus on this one word: PLURIPOTENTIAL.
Such an interesting word. The first time this word truly caught my attention occurred when I was flipping through the pages of my Hematology textbook in my third year of medical school. While studying, I thought about this word a lot. Pluripotential. I always thought it was such a magnificent word. It described something about a cell. In fact, it described the ‘beginning’ cell; the cell that ‘was’, before it began to assume a somewhat differentiated form. I was always intrigued by this one word and I kept thinking about it on nuuuuumerous occasions.
Pluripotential = (pluri) potential
Wow! Why do I find this word so magnificent? It is almost as a ‘power play’ word. I break it down. First of all, just the word ‘potential’ alone is such a very powerful word. Someone who studies chemistry or even physics would understand the joy that comes to mind when one thinks of potential. When I think about potential, I think about energy stored that is waiting to be used. I think about the possibility of something happening. It is a possibility that just lies rather dormant. Though, it is still a possibility nonetheless. It speaks to something unseen; that invisible force. Such an amazing word.
And now there is that prefix word ‘pluri’. Pluri. Plural. Many. Wow! When I think of marrying the many-ness to the potential, I see many potentials. This fascinates me greatly. It is almost like infinity. There are infinite potentials. So just one cell alone has the potential to be whatever it wants to be. EVERYTHING ON THIS PLANET, I suppose, STARTED OFF WITH A SINGLE CELL! ONE CELL! How awesome is that? Just because of the pluripotential-ness of the cell. I remain silent.
This thought drives me to read from the book of Genesis Chapter 2. I read.
20 So Man gave names to all the cattle, the birds of the air and to every beast of the field. But he did not find among them a helper like himself.
21 Then Yahweh God caused a deep sleep to come over Man and he fell asleep. He took one of his ribs and filled its place with flesh.
22 The rib which Yahweh God had taken from Man He formed into a woman and brought her to man.
I find the topic of hematology in verse 21. It’s so cool. God, He used piece of man’s rib to make a whole other human being... with just a single rib. But what exactly is in the rib? Well, it is the bone marrow. Now, I ask myself, sooo, where do these ‘hemopoietic cells’ come from? Is it not the bone marrow? I die with much pleasure. Indeed, God, Himself, took the cells from man’s bone marrow, those same cells that were ‘pluripotential’ to make a full woman. God was so fancy, that He even added a womb inside of her. FROM ONE WHOLE CELL. From a WHOLE cell. I highlight the key word ‘WHOLE’. This totally blows my mind. It really does. I can say many things here, especially about the bone marrow, but I keep silent for the moment. Shhh!
Now I compose myself and move on...
So, just as one ‘whole’ cell has the ability to take many different pathways, so is man able to do the same. In fact, I may imagine, that man probably has a kazillion lives that he hasn’t completely lived out. Though he has not lived these out, there always remains that potential for him to do so. His life though not yet lived out remains in infinite. For Man who has not lived out a certain potential, well this potential exists in the space of eternity.
I am itching to express something sooo much, if I can only find the right words. I slow down. Man has infinite potentials. When man chooses one potential and lives out this specific potential, there he keeps his other potentials in the space of eternity. I am getting excited here! Man chooses out his potential. Man chooses his pathway. When man lives out this particular potential, it is used up. That is it. It is as though he has grabbed a specific ball from a hat of balls. Once he grabs it, he has taken any future probability out of the hat. The future probability for this specific ball is zero. That ball has been used up when he takes it from this big bag of infinite potentials. Anything that man already takes and uses in the sphere of the earth is used up (for flesh = death, meaning it has an expiration date by God’s law), it is not existing any longer in the sphere of eternity or infinity, for he has already used up this chance or probability in the sphere of time.
I slow down even further, pausing for much thought.
So, this is life’s probability. I push slowly.
I recall from the book of Matthew Chapter 16:
24 Then Jesus said unto His disciples, “If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.
Why did Jesus say this? I ask myself. Does He take much pleasure in our pain? Why did He deny His own self? What is happening here? What exactly is happening here? What is Christ implying? Why must He deny Himself as God, Lord and Saviour. Why? If you read through the entire gospels, this was Christ’s greatest challenge and temptation. He was ALWAYS TEMPTED to show Himself as the one true God. But why did He not do so? He very well resisted temptation. Well, the answer lies in life’s probability. Remember, this is a Man of infinity. Inside of this Man, rested the power of infinity. Yet, He used none of his potentials up on the earth. Instead, He rested on his Father for all of his power. Why? Why did He demonstrate this? Why did He keep pointing to the Father always? Because by his own law, He simply had no choice. If He used up any of his potentials, by definition, He would not be God.
I consider the words taken from the book of Ecclesiastes Chapter 3:
10 I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race.
11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
I read from the book of Ephesians Chapter 1:
17 May the God of Christ Jesus our Lord, the Father of Glory, reveal Himself to you and give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation, that you may know Him.
18 May He enlighten your inner vision, that you may appreciate the things we hope for, since we were called by God. May you know how great is the inheritance, the glory, God sets apart for his saints;
19 may you understand with what extraordinary power He acts in favour of us who believe.
20 He revealed His almighty power in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and had him sit at his right hand in heaven,
21 far above all rule, power, authority, dominion, or any other supernatural force that could be named, not only in this world but in the world to come as well.
So, what is the lesson that I am learning here?
God teaches me to always live resting on the unseen. My Father teaches me to live by faith and not by sight. So, then, He is also telling me that whatever I do not see, well, it is with Him in infinity. This is the main reason for earthly (flesh = death) denials, so we can experience our full complete potentials when eternity eventually reaches down on earth. When the heavenly realms finally clash and begin to collide with the earthly realm, it is only then, man saves himself to live out his fullest potentials.
Sigh! I am tired with all this thinking.
My Father waits for man to first become WHOLE before he allows man the pleasure of living out his fullest potentials. My Father waits for the fullness of time.
I read from the book of Isaiah Chapter 49:
4 Then I said, I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nought, and in vain: yet surely my judgment is with the Lord, and my work with my God.
Now, I read from the book of Psalm 27:
13 I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
And now from the book of Hebrews Chapter 11:
13 Death found all these people strong in their faith. They had not received what was promised, but they had looked ahead and had rejoiced in it from afar, saying that they were foreigners and travelers on earth.
And now, finally I read from the book of Ephesians Chapter 1:
5 From eternity He destined us in love to be his adopted sons and daughters through Christ Jesus, thus fulfilling his free and generous will. This goal suited Him:
6 that his loving-kindness which He granted us in His Beloved might finally receive all glory and praise.
7 For in Christ we obtain freedom, sealed by His blood, and have the forgiveness of sins. In this appears the greatness of his grace,
8 which He lavished on us. In all wisdom and understanding.
9 God had made known to us his mysterious design, in accordance with his loving-kindness in Christ.
10 In Him and under Him God wanted to unite, when the fullness of time had come, everything in heaven and on earth.
So, putting it another way:
_Man, for the moment, lives in this box of time.
_Time is a tiny piece taken out of eternity
_Time and eternity never see eye to eye
_What is used up in the box of time leaves a probability of zero in eternity’s span
_ EVERYTHING = 1
_ From a WHOLE (=1), everything else flows
I note then, that Man must consider what he is buying with the faith credits that his Father grants Him. He must therefore keep that eternal mindset, if He wants to keep his credits. The more man spends his faith credits on earthly pleasures, he is withdrawing potentials from his bank of potentials that remain with him in infinity. Just a thought I play with. I now rest.
